GOD’S PRESENCE IN UNCERTAINTY

Muitin Tan

It has been more than a year since my husband, Kelly, had a brain hemorrhage. After he told us that his world was spinning furiously and had to lie down, we rushed him to the hospital, where he underwent 4 hours of surgery, fighting for his life. It was touch-and-go the next few days. I had never been so fearful. The uncertainty was difficult to bear.

Thankfully, he made a miraculous recovery subsequently. From this experience, we learnt key lessons.

First, we thank God for our lives. Truly, each day is a gift with a purpose. We know that everything happened so we could tell of His miraculous greatness.

Second, we thank God for journeying with us during this difficult period. Depending on God gave us strength to persevere during the following months of agonizing therapy and recovery in baby-steps. Throughout the journey, we are grateful to God and for family and friends whom God has given us. I am
also thankful for how he has granted me the wisdom to make the most critical life decisions.

Third, we thank God for who we will be in the future. From this experience we have gained a brand-new perspective. What is important in life is not what we have achieved, but who cares for you when you are unable to give anything back to them. That is what matters most.

We thank God for giving Kelly a second chance and a new purpose to live.

Truly, God is with us through every season, even through the darkest moments in our lives.

73 people attended the Zoom webinar on Peter’s Ponderings: “Vulnerability in Friendship” on Nov 21. After watching the reflection, participants gathered in small groups to share their experiences on the question: How are meaningful relationships rewarding? Salient sharings were reported back to everyone who re-gathered to hear Peter’s concluding summary.

Peter’s Ponderings is a monthly reflection by Peter Chao enjoyed by an online community that shares insights with each other. These recorded reflections are released to the public after the “live” interactive gathering. You can join the online participants upon registration at www.eagles.org.sg.

The next webinar will be held at 9 pm (Singapore time) on Sunday, Dec 26, 2021. Peter’s reflection will be on “The Grace of Receiving.”

“Wow!” was the experience of 127 participants at the webinar “Bible Study, Ministry & Preaching in the Digital Age” on Dec 2. Scott Lindsey, Director of Faithlife, presented a powerful and resourceful digital tool – Logos Bible Software to study the Bible.
One commented that it was a “wonderful eye opener on how to be better anchored in the Word!” with its features of more than 200,000 titles related to the Bible. Scott concluded from Martyn Lloyd- Jones on the need to study the Bible diligently: “There is nothing more important in the Christian life than the way in which we approach the Bible, and the way in which we read it. It is our textbook, it is our only source, it is our only authority. We know nothing about God and about the Christian life apart from the Bible.”
